Pg 241 Matthew the only s/o Thomas (Arundel-Howard20), 1st Baron Arundel, & Ann Philipson ... according to the English records disappeared or died after 1620. As there is some doubt about his death, it is not improbable that it were he who married Anne -- and departed for Virginia, still retaining the name Howard of his great-grandmother and which had been used at one time by his father and grandfather.

There are theory's to the contrary that Thomas Arundell Howard was not Matthew Howards father.
