I think all were born in America and their parents had migrated from Germany. I understand there is another related branch of the Hesse family in Minnesota but i know nothing about them.
North TX State University to begin work on my Master's degree. An old hi school & college buddy (James Nelson) & I decided to room together in Garland and work in a machine shop (for Robert & Corky Simpson) & commute to Denton for classes. We rented a room from another guy we knew - who was to become your (Darrell Hesse) Uncle Bruce (Dunmore). In the spring of 56 your ex-Aunt Shirley fixed me up with a date & introduced me to your mother to be. I think our first date was to see the movie - Alamo with John Wayne at the old Majestic theatre in downtown Dallas.

Since the Korean "conflict" was on & I was classified 1A for the draft I was unable to get a teaching job so went back to Longview & to work as an inspector in the machine shop at the LeTournsn factory. My draft call came up in early 1954 & since I had joined the Naval Reserve while in college I elected to take active duty in the Navy - so went on active duty in 1 March 1954. The Navy was a good experience - I went to radio school and became a radioman - serving in CA (San Diego Area) and the other half of the time aboard ship all over the Far East - Japan, Formosa, China, Vietnam & Korea). ... I was released from active duty in 31 Jan 1956 (a month early) in order to enroll at North TX State University to begin work on my master's degree.
