2038Section No. 71 Steuart, John. Bath, Sep 12, 1832. Drafted, Jan, 1781, for three months. Marched down James. Crossed the river at Sandy Point and joined army next day. Then marched to Suffolk and Camp Carson, being stationed at the latter place during the winter. In March was marched to Portsmouth and back to Camp Carson, where he was discharged, Apr 10. Officers same as Edward Stewart’s (Section 70). Again drafted three months and was at siege of Yorktown, where he was wounded on the hand by a sword cut.

Enlisted Jan 1781, marched fm Augusta Co VA, served as a private in Capt Thomas Hicklin’s Company under Col Sampson Mathews and William Bowyer in the VA Troops and was discharged 10 Apr 1781, having served 3 months
Enlisted again 1781 served three months as a private and was at the siege of Yorktown, where he was wounded on his hand by the cut of a sword and was discharged after the surrender of Cornwallis. Names of his officers in this tour are not given.
In 1833 he was living in Bath Co VA. He was allowed pension on Certif # 3909 issued 21 Apr 1834?.
