179564Image178of242 Pg 135 John Freeman was as early as 1643 was in the military company of Sandwich, an Ensign in Mar 1654-5, a Lieutenant before Oct 1659 and Captain before Oct 1675. He was active in King Philip’s War and for his service his heirs received a grant of land in Narragansett Township 7 at what is now Gorham, ME. In 1685 he was chosen to command the third Plymouth Colony Regiment composed of companies from Barnstable, Sandwich, Yarmouth and Eastham.
