Pg 92 Section No. 70 Steuart, Edward. - Bath, Sep 12, 1832. Abt 1779 substituted for Joseph Beathe, in a three months’ tour under Capt McCreery, at Clover Lick Fort. Drafted bat 1778, serving two months or over at Vance Fort under Capt Andrew Lockridge. Abt 1780, drafted and served two months against the British. Marched under Capt John McCoy to Richmond and Camp Holly. Drafted three months, 1781, serving at the siege of Yorktown, under Capt Thomas Hicklin, Maj John Wilson and Col. Samuel Vance. Drafted three months, 1782, serving as ensign under Capt George Poage, guarding the Augusta frontier at Clover Lick fort.

Pg 11 Barber Co VA 27 Nov 1845 Mary Steuart, aged abt 80 yrs, appeared in Barber County VA Court, as widow of Edward Steuart who was Ensign in the Army a pensioner, she was married 4 Apr 1786 Augusta Co VA to Edward Steuart whom d: 7 Apr 1844

Enlisted (place not shown) and served with VA Troops as follows:
Sometime in 1778, two months as a private in Capt Andrew Lockridge’s Company at Vance’s Fort on the frontiers of Augusta Co VA
1779, three months as a private in Capt Robert McKery or MrCrory’s Company at Clover Lick on said frontier
1780, two months as private in Capt John McCoy’s Company, near Richmond
1781, three months as private in Capt Thomas Hicklin’s Company, Col Samuel Vance’s Regiment and was at the siege and in the engagement at Yorktown and was one of the guard that marched the British prisoners to Winchester VA
1782, three months as ensign in Capt George Poage’s Company at Clover Lick on the frontiers of Augusta Co and was out on several scouting parties against the Indians.
It is not shown that he served in the War of 1812 and he d: prior to the commencement of the Mexican War.
He was allowed pension on his application executed 8 Jan 1833, while a resident of Bath Co VA. In 1837 he had moved to Harrison Co VA.

Pg 71 Request to Veterans Bureau, Washington DC for information on Edward Stuart who entered the war at 18 yrs from Staunton in Monterey. After his death at age of about 83 wife received a pension. Her name was. Callahan Stuart. At about middle age engaged in the war ( ? ) or the War of 1812 as Capt and was known at home Ned. His grandson is living his name is Edward Stuart. His father’s name was John Stuart. The soldiers grave is in the home farm, his father’s name was William Stuart, his mothers name was Lady Margaret Usher both of ( ? ) Scotland. Any information thankfully for DAR Chapter into which I have been voted. /s/ Mrs. Hope Steuart White.
