He was raised initially by the Beddos and then came to live with my great grandparents, Burrell Simms & Emma Florence Marmaduke, in Westmoreland County.

Served in the U.S. Army in World War I in France, where he was gassed and experienced bad health thereafter. According to Death Certificate served in World War I. He was inducted at Camp Meade, MD in Oct 1917 and assigned to 316 Infantry, Company L. He mustered out 6 Nov 1919 at Camp Dix, NJ as a 1st Class Private from Base Hospital 33, West Branch. He served overseas in France. Sailed from the U.S. on 26 Oct 1918 and returned to the U.S. on 3 Nov 1919.
