Document: Army of the US Certificate of Disability for Discharge (Approved M. C. Cecedeson?, Sure USA, Asst Med Dir, DC) Solomon West, a Farrier of Capt T. A. Lovelace, Co D of the 3rd Reg’t US Cavalry vol was enlisted by A. N. Davis of the 3rd Regiment of KY Cavalry at Greenville KY on the 7th Nov 1861 to serve 3 yrs he was born in Morgan Co AL is 38 yrs of age, 5’4 1/2” high, Light complexion, Blue eyes, light hair and by occupation when enlisted a Farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 60 days. Said soldier was a healthy man when he came into the Army his disease has been contracted in the Army while in the line of his duty. Station Camp Smith, Nashville, TN 12 May 1864 /s/ Mr. J. Davis, Lieut, Commanding Company. I certify that I carefully examined the said Solomon West of Capt Lovelace’s Company and find him incapable of performing duties of a soldier because of chronic bronchitis (of one years standing) with Tuberculosis. Attended with such a degree of general disability and emaciation as to leave no doubt that he will be entirely disabled during the balance of his term of enlistment.
