Pg 5981591 John Hatch, a well-known liberal and opportunist who rose to importance during the Commonwealth. From 1654 to 1658 John Hatch was a member of the commission or governing body of the Province which under the chairmanship of Richard Preston ruled the colony for four years or so. After the Puritan downfall Hatch regained his good favor with the Calverts only by the payment of a heavy fine.
