He held the serjeancy of Macclesfield. He exchanged lands in Marton for lands in Bramhall and Hillcroft, and became influential in the northern part of the Hundred of Macclesfield, so that he was able to make extensive grants to other members of his own family.
53735Image65of400 Pg 65 By an inquisition taken before Reginald de Gray, 16 year of Edward I (1288), it is found that (9) Roger Davenport held his sergeancy in the Hundred of Macclesfield in the Bach & c., and that he shall find eight sergeants (one a horseman) to keep the peace, who shall come at the king’s summons, at their own cost in the county, and at the king’s cost when they shall have passed the Dee, or gone out of the county.
