75214 - His father, John Root Sen., subscribed the articles of settlement adopted by the planters of Mattatuck, afterwards Waterbury, CT and was accepted in behalf of one of his sons, as original proprietor, Jan 15, 1678. The father called Goodman Rote (sic), “was one of the committee, in 1677, to take into consideration the expediency of changing the village site.
