46550Welcome to the Wade Family
46150WadeNotes: circumstantial evidence substantiate the plausibility of a connection betw Wades of VA & Wades of MD. Robert Wade, Sr. of Prince Georges Co, MD, was a son of Zacharias (Zachary) Wade & Mary Hatton of Charles Co, MD, where Zacharias died in 1677. Robert Wade, Sr. died in 1714. His wife Elizabeth Sprigg Wade died after 04 November 1713. Zachariah Wade (1627-1677) and his wife Mary Hatton had three children that lived until adulthood, Richard Wade, the eldest son was born about 1664, married (1) Ann Jones and (2) Mary Glover Meek, and died in 1727, Zachariah (Zacharias) Wade was named by Dr. Wade to be the administrator of his will and also was a minor heir. Zachariah (Zacharias) Wade was named administrator of the will which was witnessed by Edmond Brent and William Backhous. (Will Book 1, page 101, MARYLAND CALENDAR OF WILLS, VOLUME I.) Zachariah (Zachary) Wade of Charles County, Maryland, died at a relatively young age since his three surviving children and heirs were not parents when he made his will on 05 March 1677. It was proved on 25 May 1677. William Hatton was a brother of Mary Hatton who married Zachariah Wade. When Luke Gardner of St Mary's Co MD, composed his will on 4 Dec 1673, among his bequests of land were 800 ac on Piscataway Creek adjoining his brother-in-law Zachariah (Zacharay) Wade. Will Book 1, page 631, MARYLAND CALENDAR OF WILLS, Volume I. Zachariah (Zachary) Wade & Mary Hatton were married after 1749, when she came to MD with her mother Margaret Hatton, widow of Richard Hatton, & siblings, Barbara, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Richard & William. (Liber ABH, folio 422; Liber 2, folio 613, THE EARLY SETTLERS OF MD) Since Zachariah Wade and Richard Hatton, Jr. described Randolph Hanson as their brother and brother-in-law, he apparently was the second husband of Barbara Hatton Johnson.

Mr.Zachary Wade, as he is referred to in the Archives of MD, was an attorney at St Marys as early as 1648, during which year he gave evidence in the case of a stolen “Red cow” which had been presented by the late Governor deceased to Capt Vaughn in 1650. In Mar 1675 Zachary Wade & Francis Pope were named justices for the Peace for Charles Co. Zachary Wade’s patent of 780 ac, Brother’s Purchase, was taken up with Capt Luke Gardner, Jul 16, 1670 (Sources: “Red Cow” MD Archives 4, pg 394-5; Corne Loft 1649-50 Assy Proc pg 50 of JPs MD Archives 15, pg 68)
There is a monument in Washington DC, on 15th Street, between Constitution Ave and East St, erected by the National Daughters of American Colonists, April 25, 1936. It bears the following inscription, "To the original patentees prior to 1700 whose land grants embrace the site of the Federal City." The name of
Zachory Wade is among those listed, followed by the date 1670.
Came to America in 1641 and thereafter was the Wade family's administrator of English relatives in America. His descendants would later marry into the Hatton, Stone, Harrison (and through them the Elgin), & Graves families. He provided transport to America to Francis Adams, father of Elizabeth Adams who married immigrant George Elgin
3738Zachary Wade settled in Maryland in 1641 as a servant of Mistress Margaret Brent. He was employed by Col. Giles Brent at Kent Fort Manor on Kent Island, Maryland. He remained on the island after the Brents were ejected in a land dispute by Col. Robert Claiborne in 1644 and then returned to the Brent's service after Claiborne was ejected in his turn in 1647. He later lived at Newton, St. Mary's County and served as Margaret Brent's steward at St. Gabriel Manor in St. Mary's County. He became a lawyer. He was a member of the Maryland Assembly and served as sheriff and justice of Charles County. He was sent by the Assembly on a mission by ship, probably to Virginia, to procure a copy of the statutes of England. Wades Bay named 1665 after Him First land owner
