p.292 Williams, Charles. Private, 3rd MD Line. Applied for and received pension S35122 on 5 May 1818, aged 57, in St Mary's Co, stating he enlisted on 27 Mar 1780, and participated in the Battles of Camden, Guilford (Court House), Ninety-Six, and Eutaw Springs. Two weeks prior to the expiration of his term of enlistment he went as a guard to prisoners from Annapolis to Frederick and was there discharged in Apr 1783. In 1820 he stated he had 6 children between the ages of 10 and 25 (4 sons and 3 daus), but no names were given. A son James was mentioned in 1833. Charles d: 16 Feb 1839, leaving two children of which Mary Hill was the only one named (Ref: D-178, U-40, P-3850, and National Genealogical Socy Quarterly, Vol. 34, No. 2 (1946), p.70). This latter source stated “This pensioner is the only one of the name in the MD troops as found in the Rev. War records of the Pension Bureau.” It should be noted, however, that there was a Charles Williams who served as a private from Harford Co and another who was a private from Anne Arundel Co, even though they apparently were not pensioners (Ref: D-59). There was also a Charles Williams in Calvert Co who made a request to the Gov of MD for bounty money on 1 Jun 1779, but the nature of his request was not specified (Ref: V-226).10285
