Pg 126, 31. Robert Fitz Hamon, Lord of Creully in Normandy, received from William II the manors in Gloucester and other counties which had been held by William's mother Queen Maud. (“Brictric, a great Thegn (thane) of the time of Edward the Confessor, held extensive estates in Gloucester, Worcester, Somerset, and other counties. Maud (Matilda of Flanders), afterwards wife of William the Conqueror, in her youth wished to marry Brictric, who refused her. When she became Queen she imprisoned him, and on his death shortly afterwards his manor, the 'honour of Gloucester,' were given to her.”)
