Pg 149 Line 176A, Godgifu (or Godiva) (She is Lady Godiva of legend)
25651Pg 111, 37. Leofric Marr: Godiva. According to legend: “the people of Coventry suffering grievously under the earl's oppressive taxation, Lady Godiva appealed to her husband, who .. said that he would grant her request if she would ride naked through the streets of the town. After issuing a proclamation that all people should keep within doors and shut their windows, she rode through Coventry, clothed only in her long hair. One person disobeyed her proclamation, a tailor, ever afterward known as Peeping Top, who is said to have been struck blind. Her husband kept his word and abolished the obnoxious taxes. The Godiva procession … as part of the Coventry fair, was celebrated at intervals until 1826.”
