Pg 105, 33. Roger de Mortimer. Seigneur of Mortemer-sur-Eaulne in Normandy, s/o 34. Hugh, Bishop of Coutances 990,1 was one of the leaders of the Norman forces when Duke William (later William I of England) repulsed Henry I of France at the battle of Mortimer in 1054; but, having assisted in the escape of one of the French prisoners, he was exiled and his lands confiscated. He was afterwards reconciled to the Duke and some of his lands were restored, but not Mortimer, which had been given to his cousin William de Warenne (Warenne 31)
