When Lieut Thomas1 Sprigg received a grant of 1000 acres in MD from Lord Baltimore, he called the tract Northampton, as a suggestive of his VA, & per chance a former English home. John1Nuthall was another signer (Submission to Parliament) & thus must have been John1 Nuthall, gentleman of Cross Manor, whose dau Eleanor2 Nuthall, marr Thomas1 Sprigg bef Sep 1668. As early as 1660-1661 he (Thomas Sprigg) was Commissioner of the Quorum for Calvert Co & Sheriff for that Co from 1664 to 1667, after which he was further honored by being made High Sheriff

He first appeared in the MD records in 1657, when he sued John Nevill (MD Archives, I, 546).
