17384Pg 123 6 John Sutton (or Dudley), Knt, K.G. He was first of his family to adopt the surname of Dudley as an alias for Sutton. He was taken prisoner with King Henry VI on 23 May 1455 at the first Battle of S Albans & was wounded at Blore Heath on 23 Sep 1459.

Dugdale and the best authorities treat this John Sutton de Dudley as the first baron Dudley of the Sutton family. In 1428 he succeeded Sir John de Grey as viceroy of Ireland.
