Sergeant, Capt John Morgan’s co, Col Ruggles Woodbridge’s regt; engaged 24 Aug (also given 10 Sep) 1777; service in Northern department; said Root with others reported as having deserted 27 Oct 1777 and pay not allowed; also, Capt Solomon Brown’s co, Col Elisha Porter’s (Hampshire Co) regt.; engaged 3 Aug 1779; discharged 1 Sep 1779; service, 1 mo 6 days, at New London, CT, including 32 days (75 miles) travel home; also, order dated Westfield, 14 Sep 1781, signed by Col David Mosley, directing said Root, Lieutenant, of Southwick, to hold himself in readiness to march on the shortest notice with 6 days provisions to CT to serve under Capt John Gray or such other officer a might be appointed, in accordance with orders received from Brig Gen Parks to detach one-fourth part of the militia under command of Col Mosley.
