Pg 36 Letter to George E. Waite, Winfield, KS 1934: Jonathan Whitney, S 37542, only soldier by that name that is found in the Rev War records of this office. He enlisted at Buxton, MA abt Jan 1776 served 1 yr as private in Capt Wentworth Stuart’s company in Colonel Edmund Phinney’s MA regiment. He immediately enlisted and served three years as private in Capt Josiah Jenkin’s company in Col Samuel Brewer’s MA regiment and was at the surrender of Burgoyne, the battle of Monmouth and the battle of Stony Point. He was allowed a pension 11 Apr 1818 at which time he was a resident of Brownfield, Oxford Co MA, age sixty-one years. /s/ A. D. Hiller, Assistant to Administrator
