Nov. 1648 - Maryland Provincial Court. Whereas it is publicly known to all the inhabitants of Kent that in the late Rebellion of that land John Gressam [sic] of that land, planter, was a partaker with the rebels and a principal and active ____ to maintain the said Rebellion, and whereas the said Gressam notwithstanding the late Governor's Pardon published at the Isle of Kent Apr. 16, 1647 and the last Pardon also published by Thomas Greene, Esq., Governor of this Province and bearing date at St. Mary's Mar. 3/4, 1647/8, in that case favorably provided that all persons whatsoever interested in the foresaid Rebellion (Richard Ingle, mariner, only excepted) expressing sorrow for their facts and coming and craving for their Pardon before Michaelmas last past should have their Pardon for their offense committed. Which notwithstanding the said John Gressam persisting in his ill mind, as it doth appear, hath condemned and neglected to sue for. These are therefore to require and authorize all Sheriffs belonging unto this Province, if at any time they shall find the said John Gressam within their district, that they shall as a Rebel apprehend him and deliver him into the hands of Justice. And likewise that in particular (Henry Morgan), the Sheriff of Kent (in which County the said Gressam is said to have some estate) is hereby required to cause inquiry to be made within the said County of Kent, of any lands or goods belonging to him within that County and the same to seize to the Lord Proprietor's use. And after such seizure made to deliver one half thereof into the hands of his Lordship’s Attorney or Receiver and the other half to the present Governor of this Province or to whom he shall appoint.
