He descended from de Warrene, Stanley and Ferrers families of England. The name of Hyde appears in the Saxon Annals of England. Ann Hyde, daughter of the Earl of Clarendon, married the Duke of York, who became King James II. The ancestry of William Hyde is traced to Emperor Charlemagne through the Barons Roger Bigod, Hugh Bigod, John de Lacie, Robert FitzWalter, William de Malet, Saire de Quincey, Richard de Clare, Gilbert de Clare, Henry de Bohun and Robert de Vere.
