Vol 62 Pg 195 Chad Browne - Disproved (as son of Chad Browne). … The assumption that Chad had a namesake son is apparently the result of a misreading of several 17th century records, a common error of those unfamiliar with the early methods of land distribution. The problem arise from the fact that, while Chad1Browne d: bed 16 Dec 1663 (Providence Early Records 1:50), his name kept appearing in the records as a recipient in the divisions of land in Providence: 19 Feb 1665/6, 12 Apr 1675, 24 May 1675, and 17 Mar 1683/4 (Providence Early Records 1:50, 3:72, 4:46, 48, 66, 17:32). A son Chad was forced into existence to explain these posthumous references to Chad Browne, the original settler.
