Hill, administrator of Hester Hill, decd, a resident of Prince Georges Co MD, who is being duly sworn according to law doth make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the Act of Congress affirmed 4th Jul 1836. He is administrator of Hester Hill, who was the widow of Captain Henry Hill of Prince George’s Co MD and who applied for a pension under act of 7th Jul 1838 for the services of her said husband, said application was rejected for the reason that there was no evidence shown to justify the allowance of said claim, since making that application new and material evidence has been found, which is herewith transmitted, which will most clearly show a service of nearly two years. District of Columbia 17 Oct 1838, Mrs Hester Hill, resident of Prince Georges County MD age 78 on 9 Oct 1838, who is too (?) to attend court and who being duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed. 7 Jul 1838 ….
That she the widow of the late Captain Henry Hill of Prince Georges Co MD.
That by the annexed certificate of G.G. Brewer, Esquire dated “Land Office Annapolis 7 Sep 1838” it will appear that her said husband, Henry Hill was appointed Captain in the lower Battalion of Militia in Prince Georges County on the 1 Sep 1777
That her husband commanded a company of militia under Col Luke Marbury and was attached to the Flying Camp under General Smallwood in 1777. That he marched to PA and was in the actions of Germantown and white horse, and that he served during the whole war in the cause of his Country, defending and maintaining her dearest right which is corroborated by the annexed deposition of Daniel Carroll of Dudington Esquire, a resident of the City of Washington, DC to whom, her husband was related and by whom the services of her husband were partially known.
She further declares that she was married to the said Captain Henry Hill on 24 Apr either in the year 1779 or 1780, which circumstance, as well as the services of her husband, she is unable further to prove, in consequence of the entire loss of all her husbands papers and family records by fire on the 23 Oct 1832 when her dwelling was entirely consumed.
That her husband the aforesaid Captain Henry Hill died on the 27 Apr 1822, that she was married to him during the war, whilst he held the commission of Captain in the Battalion aforesaid, and that the marriage took place previous to the 1 Jan 1794; viz at the time herein before stated, and that she has not since married.
