Pg 48051101 - 1680 Humphrey’s grandson, Col Joseph Belt (1680 MD-1761 MD) b: Anne Arundel Co MD. There is a monument to his honor located on Chevy Chase Circle on the line between MD & District of Columbia. He is probably the most prominent of all Belt ancestors. He was one of the largest landowners in the colonies.
The most complete reports on Col Belt are (1) Col Joseph Belt by C.C. Magruder, Jr. dtd 5 Nov 1909, published as a Historical paper of the Society of Colonial Wars in the District of Columbia. (2) Montgomery Co MD Historical Society report on May 1969 Vol XII No. 3 by Martha Sprigg Poole on Col Joseph Belt & Col Ninian Beall. (Further research!)
