2224Interview with Jenny Smith
2225 Jenny hid from Lucille in the Loom House and Lucille never found her.
Most enjoyable memories of time spent with the family: Water fight with a bucket of water when she was about ten years old. The Spring was a short distance away. In Winter you could drink it. In Summer, they would walk up the mountain to get water. They would use the creek to get wash water for the clothes. They would use a scrub board on the porch of the Loom House.
They had a chicken house. Also they had a cellar with a room above for storage, where she and Lucille played. They had a shed, a garage, an out-house, and a Meat House which was torn down.
She saved for her High School Ring by saving 25 cents from candy money.
Jenny stayed a week with her Aunt Martha Cleek before she married and before she started to work.
They would take the train to see George Hoover, his wife, Mary Elizabeth Cleek, was dead.
She took the Civil Service Test in Virginia. Got a job in Washington, DC, and about twelve girls went on the train to Washington, DC. They were in a Secretarial pool and were assigned jobs. She lived in Arlington Hall when she first got to Washington DC until she got married.
Jenny visited with Joseph and Lydia Hill
Jenny and George moved to GA about a year after they married. They lived with George’s folks about three months.
