54762Pg 244 Richard Plantagenet, Earl of March and Lord Mortimer De Wigmore, also Earl of Ulster. He was restored as Duke of York on Whit-Sunday, 1426. He was, by Henry VI, declared heir to the Crown, 25 Oct 1460, but was slain two months later, 30 Dec 1460, aged 58

17287Richard knighted at Leicester by the young King Henry VI 19 May 1426 and was restored that day as 3rd Duke of York, though his father's attainder was not reversed till 1461. He succeeded to the extensive estates of his uncle, Edmund Mortimer, 5th Earl of March, including the lordships of Clare, and Trim and Connaught, in Ireland, becoming the most powerful subject in the realm. … Richard assumed the name Plantagenet about 1448. Till 1453 King Henry was childless and Richard's prospective claim to the throne was challenged by the Lancastrian Edmund Beaufort, Duke of Somerset (see Somerset 9), a descendant of King Edward III through John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster
