Vol 62 Pg 195 Chad Browne - Disproved (as son of Chad Browne). … The assumption that Chad had a namesake son is apparently the result of a misreading of several 17th century records, a common error of those unfamiliar with the early methods of land distribution. The problem arise from the fact that, while Chad1Browne d: bed 16 Dec 1663 (Providence Early Records 1:50), his name kept appearing in the records as a recipient in the divisions of land in Providence: 19 Feb 1665/6, 12 Apr 1675, 24 May 1675, and 17 Mar 1683/4 (Providence Early Records 1:50, 3:72, 4:46, 48, 66, 17:32). A son Chad was forced into existence to explain these posthumous references to Chad Browne, the original settler.

Vol 80(1926) Pg76 There appears no record otherwise of this son Chad, except the reference on his father’s gravestone.
Vol 80(1926) Pg76 Chad Browne ch: vi. Chad2 He is regarded by “The Chad Browne Memorial” as identical with Judah; but the two names do not seem interchangeable.
