Pg 362 (Shepherd 4 Gum) in 1834 stated that he had entered service under Capt Robert Craven in the spring of 1779, and had marched to the Tryon Valley to help protect the frontier of VA against the Indians and had served for three months. ... His application for a pension was stamped Rejected (S: Application of Shepherd Gum for Revolutionary War Pension under the Act of Congress in 1832, made on 6 Aug 1834, in Howard County, MO.
